Voter Registration

Checking measures

The Registration and Electoral Office (“REO”) implements checking measures which include:

  • Follow-up on the undelivered poll cards and electoral mails for the previous elections;
  • Verification of electors’ status of Hong Kong permanent residence and registered addresses with other government departments, including Immigration Department, Housing Department, Hong Kong Housing Society and Home Affairs Department;
  • Checks on multiple electors or multiple surnames of electors registered with the same residential address;
  • Checks on addresses with incomplete information or suspected non-residential addresses; and
  • Checks on addresses situated at buildings already demolished or vacant buildings to be demolished.

In implementing the checking measures, if the REO becomes aware that an individual may no longer meet the requirements set forth by the relevant electoral laws, inquiry letters will be issued in accordance with the law.
